'The War Within' is now an
Audio Book
I'm pleased to announce
that I have given the Audio Book rights of my memoir to the Association for the Blind (Guide Dogs)
W.A.
I don't think there is a
more noble charity than one which works to help blInd people 'see'- and I've decided that the proceeds of all
sales of the Audio versions will go to this most worthy Association.
The War Within became a best-seller in Australia within the first six weeks of
its release in 2008, and despite outraging small pockets of war veterans (who were ignorant of some of the
major concerns of the Vietnam War section of the book) has subsequently sold out each reprint.
Rather than sell a few
hundred copies year after year, and with the rights reverting back to me, I have opted to release it to a
charitable cause- and I couldn't think of a better choice than the Association for the Blind,
W.A.
'The War Within' is regarded as one of the most memorable (and
most controversial) of recent Australian memoirs- and has received wonderful reviews from intellectuals, war
veterans, book lovers, and book reviewers. (I've attached one of the first reviews- by Ian
McPhedran)
The Audio Book versions (a
package of 16 x 1hr discs, or 1 x 17hr disc for MP3's) would make a great Christmas present
for:
- the vision
impaired
- long-distance
travellers (caravaners or campervanners)
- long-haul truck
drivers
- veterans who weren't game
to buy a hard copy in case they were seen enjoying it
- the elderly,
or
- any book lover who can't
obtain a hard copy of the book
It is brilliantly narrated
by Elwyn Edwards who brings an actor's craft to the writer's voice.

War Book in
a different format
Cairns man, Peter
Nielsen, has published a new book titled DIARY OF
WWII NORTH QUEENSLAND (UPDATE).
This massive
reference book of almost 1,500 pages is much too large for a normal printed book, and so he has
published it in PDF format on a CD-Rom.
He goes on to say
that this CD-Book has been a labour of
love for the past twenty six years with almost annual research pilgrimages from Far North Queensland to
Australian War Memorial, Australian Archives and Naval History Section.
Research began in
1985 in the Townsville region, and continued in the Far North Queensland from 1990 and is still ongoing.
The tome
chronologically records every aspect of Allied Military "comings and goings", (land, sea & air), in
North Queensland from 1939 to 1946 in an area from Mackay to Horn Island and west to Mount
Isa.
It includes RAN, USN,
MN, AIF, Militia, RAAF, USAAF, Women's Services plus Home Front units.
It records precisely,
the movements of “who, what, when and where” troops, squadrons, ships etc
berthed/ encamped/stationed/trained within North Queensland during those war years – When they
arrived, (from where),and When they departed, (to
where).
This document has
been converted to PDF, (which has a “Search” function) and with the author's colour scheme, he has made
it ‘user friendly’ for researchers.
Mr Nielsen warns
purchasers that though this CD-Book is
encased in a very impressive DVD case, it is not a DVD, but a Data CD and can only be read by a
computer.
He is also quick to
point out that it cannot be downloaded from the Internet, and as such it cannot be classified as an
E-Book.
The CD-Book is
available exclusively from the author, at a cost of $70:00 + $5 p&p.
